Wheat...West coast wheat prices benefitted from the uptick across the
futures complex in early-week trade, with white wheat prices moving to the
highest levels since early last June. Basis levels to Chicago also held
mostly steady, supported by recent export buying. New crop August bids
also strengthened and were posted near the $6.50 mark on Tuesday.
Shipments...Weekly export inspections revealed a marked increase in the
pace of wheat shipments last week, coming in at 18 million bushels. Year-
to-date shipments now stand at 601 million bushels and 18% ahead of a year
ago. White wheat was the top shipper for the week with 4.9 million bushels,
followed by hard red winter with 4.4 million and hard red spring with 4.1
million. West coast exporters shipped 13 million bushels of wheat, mostly
to Japan and South Korea, along with 24 million bushels of corn. Japan and
South Korea were top destinations for corn, but ships for Taiwan and Vietnam
were also under the spout last week.
